Madea’s Big Happy Family

Madea’s Big Happy Family is a 2011 LIONSGATE and TYLER PERRY STUDIOS comedy drama film and is the sixth film in the “Madea Universe”, starting with Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Madea’s Family Reunion, Meet the Browns, Madea Goes to Jail, and I Can Do Bad All By Myself.

The film stars Loretta Devine (For Colored Girls / Lottery Ticket / Death at a Funeral / This Christmas), Shad “Bow Wow” Moss (Lottery Ticket / The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift / Roll Bounce / Like Mike), David Mann (Madea Goes to Jail / Meet the Browns / Meet the Browns tv series), Cassi Davis (Daddy’s Little Girls / House of Payne tv series), Tamela Mann (Madea Goes to Jail / Meet the Browns / Diary of a Mad Black Woman / Meet the Browns tv series), Lauren London (Good Hair / Next Day Air / I Love You, Beth Cooper / This Christmas), Isaiah Mustafa, Rodney Perry (Johnson Family Vacation), Shannon Kane (Brooklyn’s Finest / Blood and Bone), and Tyler Perry (Why Did I Get Married? / Why Did I Get Married Too? / Star Trek / Madea).

The music is written and composed Aaron Zigman (Step Up, Step Up 2 the Streets, Flash of Genius, Alpha Dog).

The film is written, produced and directed by Tyler Perry (writer, producer, and director of I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Madea Goes to Jail, Meet the Browns, Madea’s Family Reunion, Why Did I Get Married?, Why Did I Get Married Too?, For Colored Girls, The Family that Preys, and Daddy’s Little Girls).

Hmmm…another film in the MADEA series!!!  There’s not much to say about Tyler Perry and his movies.  They are all the same.  Not very good, overly racist, and terribly acted.  With all that said…I still can’t help but laugh.

For this being the sixth film in a series, it really has got to the point that if you haven’t seen the earlier films, then you can get lost extremely easily.  Now for the above average person seeing his first Madea film, you’ll be able to figure out the family dynamic very easily, but for the not-so-average person…you will more than likely get lost in all the overly-black craziness.

The acting as always was awful from all sides of the table and the writing was very typical of a Tyler Perry film.  The music was extremely plain, and the cinematography was nothing to talk about.  It’s a very average movie dressed up for the African American community.  There really isn’t much else to review about this movie.  If you are not a weird fan of Tyler Perry like I am, or a black person, then you really have no reason to go see Madea’s Big Happy Family.

Stay away from this film unless you REALLY want to see it.

  1. You’re the only person I trust when it comes to Tyler Perry movies, because even though you find some enjoyment out of his films you’re still honest about how bad they are.
