Off the Top Rope: Wrestling Wrap Up

WELCOME BACK ALL!!! This week’s segment of “Off the Top Rope: Wrestling Wrap Up” is brought to you by me…MATT!!!

Let’s get started shall we?

On Tough Enough, this week was all about FOCUS!!!  There was an awesome suspended ropes challenge that…you guessed it…Eric was just unable to finish.  Unfortunately, Ivelisse struggled through the course as well due to a hamstring injury from an earlier episode caused by a botched leap frog from fellow contestant Christina.  WWE Superstar John Morrison guest starred and tried to teach all of the contestants how to stay focused on the task at hand, especially when you are injured.  For any wrestling fan, you know that things can happen all the time.  A clear example of this is when then WCW star Sid Vicious broke his leg in a match with Scott Steiner.  Unfortunately, you are putting on a show and random things do happen.

In the skills challenge, the contestants had to scoop slam the bag and give an elbow drop from the top rope.  It came down to Luke and Jeremiah and, in the end, Luke was declared top dog for this week.  A.J., Ivelisse, and Eric were told to meet Stone Cold Steve Austin in the ring for the elimination round.  Ivelisse was eliminated due to her leg injury and not being able to continue, much to Steve Austin’s dismay.  He really thought she was tough enough.  On the other hand, Eric was also eliminated in a special double elimination due to his poor conditioning and just not being tough enough.

Due to the WWE Draft from a couple weeks ago, Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio are both on Raw.  The two of them, along with former WWE Champion The Miz, were thrown into a #1 Contender’s Match as the main event for Raw.  While a fun main event, the obvious person won with The Miz becoming the #1 Contender.  He will face WWE Champion John Cena in an “I Quit” match at the next pay-per-view, Over the Limit.

The latest COLE-KING drama involved Michael insulting the Lawler, like always, and Jerry getting fed up with it.  Michael Cole officially retired from in-ring competition, making him the only undefeated wrestler in history.  King then challenges Cole to a match at Over the Limit and if Cole can beat Lawler, King will personally induct Michael Cole into the WWE Hall of Fame as a duel commentator/wrestler and will give Cole his own HOF ring.  Cole declines the match and walks back to the “Cole-Mine”.  Cole insults King again by asking him what he did on Mother’s Day, knowing Jerry’s mother died in February.  Jerry Lawler loses it and tries to attack him in the “Cole-Mine”, and we are reminded that if Jerry touches Cole in any way that he is fired.  So instead, we get this extremely funny moment that really made me lose my shit.  Jack Swagger came out to the ring and accepted the match on Cole’s behalf as he helped him up.

The highlight of the night had to be Kharma entering the ring once again.  The former Awesome Kong came out once again after a Divas tag team match between The Bella Twins vs. Eve Torres and Kelly Kelly.  I think that match lasted about 1 minute or so.  The Bella’s ran off scared as Kharma entered the ring, while Kelly Kelly and Eve stayed in the ring.  Eve tries to attack her from behind but is met with a devastating clothesline.  Kharma chases Kelly Kelly out of the ring and delivers the “Implant Buster” to Eve……AWESOME!!!  Once again showing how awful the Diva’s division is in the WWE.  The complaining is still continuing from backstage as all the women are saying Kharma is being “too rough” on them in the ring and that she is trying to hurt them.  Maybe she is or maybe she isn’t.  All I really know for sure is that I look forward to Diva’s matches now.

Two things are worth mentioning from SmackDown.  It was announced that the SmackDown main event for Over the Limit will be Christian vs. World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton.  They had a main event tag team match against Sheamus and Mark Henry, but personally, I didn’t really care.

As it has been since her debut, the highlight of the night was KHARMA!!!  I never thought I would enjoy seeing the Divas again, but now when I do, I get all excited.  It all started with Layla coming down to the ring to brag about defeating Michelle McCool at Extreme Rules and ended her career.  Michael Cole interrupted her to talk about his match at Over the Limit with Jerry “The King” Lawler.  The two bicker back and forth until Kharma’s music started.  Cole tripped Layla from escaping the ring and Kharma hit the “Implant Buster” on Layla.  She then chased Cole back into the “Cole-Mine” and stared him down.  TOO GOOD!!!

Ummm……yeah……TNA iMPACT! is still around.  If you want to see how things are done wrong in the wrestling world, just take a look at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.  There are only really three things that happened this past week.

First, “THE NETWORK” has been revealed to be Mick Foley……oh joy……another old guy.

Second, Kurt Angle‘s “Mrs. Angle” was revealed to be……Chyna……oh joy……another old guy.

Third, Foley changed the name of the show from TNA iMPACT! to Impact Wrestling…….oh joy……another old guy.

A 25-Man Battle Royal for the #1 Contender for the TNA Championship was the main event of Impact Wrestling with Mr. Anderson winning the match (gee…who didn’t see that coming).

TNA’s May pay-per-view Sacrifice was this past Sunday, and like always, nothing happened, so I’m not even going to talk about it.

All that’s worth mentioning is TNA Champion Sting retained his title against the stoned-out-of-his-mind Rob Van Dam.  After a botched Scorpion Death Drop……the match continued and Sting attempted it again.  Yay for old guys!!!

All in all…that’s TNA.  NOTHING!!!

How is it TNA is on television yet Ring of Honor Wrestling isn’t anymore???

Okay that’s all for now. Next week Brunden will be going over the weeks news and views and then after one will be the other then back to me, so until then “I’m Gorilla Monsoon , for Bobby Heenan saying goodnight”.
