||Action Corner|| Born to Raise Hell / Green Lantern: Emerald Knights / Thor: Tales of Asgard

Hello all, Matt is back with another round of ACTION CORNER!!!  This time around, I will be tackling three different movies…all of which are straight-to-DVD releases.

Born to Raise Hell

First on the list is the latest offering from Aikido master and action legend Steven Seagal titled Born to Raise Hell.  The film is written by and stars Steven Seagal and is directed by Lauro Chartrand.  The film is produced by Steamroller Productions and Voltage Pictures and is distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment.

Maybe it’s just me, but I LOVE movies like this.  It’s such a shame and a waste that movies like this don’t get theatrical release and yet movies like The Roommate and Red Riding Hood somehow qualify for theatrical release???  I just don’t get it.  Even newer action movies like The Bourne Identity and Taken, which I really enjoy by the way, don’t have the same feel that the legendary 80s and 90s action films had like Double Impact or Our for Justice.  And then you get stupid movies that pretend to be good like The Matrix (I mean seriously, am I the only one that doesn’t like those movies?), but that’s another story.  Anyways, if you are a fan of 80s and 90s action films, then Born to Raise Hell is right up your alley.  The movie was released straight-to-DVD and is currently on sale now.

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights

Next up on the list is the first animated film I cover in ACTION CORNER and the newest addition to the DC Universe Animated Original Movies, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.  The film stars the voice talent of Nathan Fillion, Jason Isaacs, Kelly Hu, Elisabeth Moss, Arnold Vosloo, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, and Henry Rollins.  It is produced by DC Animation and distributed by Warner Premiere.

HELL YEAH!!!  DC Animation hasn’t really let us down yet when it comes to their movies.  Yeah, there have been a couple bad eggs but overall, I always look forward to when they release a new movie.  Told in the style of Batman: Gotham Knight, this story shows us the origins of the Green Lantern Corps with six stories going at once from six different members.  Warner Premiere is releasing this on June 7 straight-to-DVD to coincide with the release of DC Entertainment’s Green Lantern in theaters everywhere!!!

Thor: Tales of Asgard

The last film I will show you is another animated comic book hero…but from the rival Marvel Comics……Thor: Tales of Asgard.  The film stars the voice talents of Matthew Wolf, Rick Gomez, Chris Britton, Grey DeLisle, Jay Brazeau, Paul Dobson, Brian Drummond, Jonathan Holmes, and Clancy Brown and is directed by Sam Liu.  It is produced by Marvel Animation and is distributed by Lionsgate.

Hmmm….I’m just not feeling this.  Marvel has been extremely hit-or-miss when it comes to their animated features.  The art style seems very dated and the voice actors don’t mesh well……with the exception of Clancy Brown (who is always AWESOME!!!).  If you are interested in the God of Thunder, then maybe you will want to check this out.  Lionsgate released Thor: Tales of Asgard on May 17 straight-to-DVD to coincide with the release of Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studio‘s Thor.
