||Action Corner|| Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Welcome back to ACTION CORNER!!!  This time around, I will be tackling a trailer for a movie that is a prequel/reboot of a series that had its start in 1968, and since then has seen 4 sequels and a remake in 2001 from a director that is a complete APE!!!  Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars Academy Award Nominee James Franco as Dr. Will Rodman, a scientist working on a cure for Alzheimer’s by testing on apes.  Andy Serkis plays Caesar, the doctor’s main test subject and the ape that leads the revolt.  The film is not based on any specific plotline from the original series, but instead takes elements from the earlier movies to create an original origin story (and completely ignoring the 2001 Tim Burton film……HA).  The film is being produced by Chernin Entertainment and is being produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox.

All right, after a couple bad sequels from this series, and that HORRIBLE remake from 10 years ago, this trailer brings a lot of hope to me.  It’s a real interesting thing to see the beginning of it all.  For those of you not familiar with the Planet of the Apes franchise, then I suggest you take the time to watch all of them, just so you can understand things a little better.  For those of you that have only seen the 2001 film……please don’t be afraid to see this new film, it has nothing to do with the garbage that Tim Burton put out.  All the the effects in this movie are being done by Weta Digital, the company owned by Peter Jackson and responsible for the visual effects of The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, and Avatar!!! James Franco is going to be interesting to watch.  He always delivers a powerful performance, but we’ve never really seen him in a role like this.  Should be fun.

I’m personally extremely excited to see the beginning as Rise of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters August 5, 2011.
