||Action Corner|| Captain America: The First Avenger

Welcome back to ACTION CORNER!!!  This time around, I will be tackling a trailer for a movie that is joining the Marvel Studios family.  Captain America: The First Avenger is the final Marvel Studios movie before next year’s highly anticipated film, The Avengers, which will feature Iron Man, Nick Fury, Hulk, Black Widow, War Machine, Thor, Hawkeye, and Captain America.  The film will star Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Academy Award Winner Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Chester Phillips, Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt/Red Skull, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Derek Luke as Gabe Jones, Sebastian Stan as James “Bucky” Barnes, and Academy Award Nominee Stanley Tucci as Dr. Abraham Erskine.  It is the fifth film chronologically in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following 2008’s Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, 2010’s Iron Man 2, and 2011’s ThorCaptain America: The First Avenger is being produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

All I have to say is FUCK YEAH!!!  Captain America is one of my favorite Marvel super heroes, and to see him finally come to the big screen is just plain awesome.  From the moment this movie was announced, I’ve been excited, then the teaser poster was released and I was even more excited, but then the first trailer was released….and it knocked me on my ass.  Staying true to the origins of the character, the movie takes place during World War II.  I think this will help immensely in establishing the character before he makes his appearance in The Avengers.  While Chris Evans wasn’t my first choice, he definitely looks the part and holy shit did he bulk up.  Tommy Lee Jones is one of my favorite actors and any time he pops up in anything spells awesome for me.  Hugo Weaving is THE MAN!!!  He is always epic in everything he does, and knowing he is playing the villain of the film, Red Skull, makes me giddy.  I hope he has just a ton of fun in the role.  The film is being directed by Joe Johnston, which I think is a great idea.  Having already directed movies like Walt Disney PicturesThe Rocketeer and Universal PicturesThe Wolfman, Johnston has already proven he can handle period pieces with great ease, while at the same time, make a fun thrill ride of a movie.  All in all, I can’t wait for Captain America: The First Avenger to hit theaters on July 22, 2011 in 2D and Real D Digital 3D!!!
