||Action Corner|| Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows / Haywire / In Time
Welcome back to ACTION CORNER!!! This time around I will be tackling a sequel based on the characters of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, an action film starring a true “Gladiator”, and an action film starring………Justin Timberlake??? Okay, LET’S DO THIS!!!
Alright now, Sherlock Holmes is back. The 2009 film left something to be desired for me. I thought it was a good movie, but there was still something missing from it. From the words of Nick Camarena of The Fandom Menace: “It was very Batman Begins. It’s a good movie, but the sequel is gonna be epic.” And now we have the trailer to the sequel, and I gotta say, it does look like they have stepped up their “game”…pun intended. The only true villain of all the Sherlock Holmes stories is Professor Moriarty, and he is HERE!!! Although, he is not played by Brad Pitt as was the original idea. Oh well. I still have high hopes for this movie. I just hope Guy Ritchie doesn’t get in over his head with this one. While I really did enjoy the last film, I felt that if he’s given any more leeway then the movie will become too jokey and too “out there” for its own good. With all that said though, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law look like they are having way too much fun with this one and that’s going to play well for the audience. Their chemistry could not have been better in the first movie, and it looks like it’s coming back to us in spades with the sequel.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows hit theaters on December 16, 2011 in 2D!!!
HAYWIRE
Haywireis a 2012 action film about a covert operative that is betrayed on a mission in Barcelona and is forced to protect her family and go after those who betrayed her.
Hell yeah!!! Movies like this make my world go round and round. Gina Carano takes on her first lead role in a film that…GET THIS…SHE DOES ALL OF HER OWN FIGHT SCENES AND STUNTS IN!!! No stunt double for this former middleweight MMA fighter. This looks like Salt if that were a good movie. Gina Carano got her start as the female gladiator “Crush” on the revamped American Gladiators. And to that the cast of current and past action stars like Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, and Bill Paxton, and to me you have one solid film. The action appears to play out really well in the trailer. No shaky cam at work from what I can tell and no quick cuts that take you out of the fighting. Director Steven Soderbergh has been taking on very different films lately with his Ocean’s Trilogy, The Informant!, and Contagion, but I’m happy to see him take this project on. With such a new star, you need that seasoned director that knows how to handle every type of project and every type of actor and Soderbergh is one of those directors. I cannot wait for this one!!!
Haywire hits theaters on January 20, 2012 in 2D!!!
IN TIME
In Timeis a 2011 sci-fi action thriller film about a time when people don’t age past 25, the rich live forever, the poor die young, and time is worth its weight in gold.
Hmmm, okay this seems interesting. Justin Timberlake has shown us that he is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the entertainment industry with leading dramatic roles like The Social Network and leading comedic roles like Friends With Benefits, and now he is going after the action thriller genre. Can he do it though? We shall see. Amanda Seyfried honestly has NEVER looked better to me than she does in this trailer. I already like her as an actress and she is an incredibly good-looking, but DAMN does she look awesome in this movie. My first reaction to the trailer when I saw it on Rise of the Planet of the Apeswas that it looks cool, but I don’t think anyone is going to see it. The story just looks a little too out there for people to wrap their minds around. I had the same feeling about Surrogatesand The Fifth Element. I truly hope I am wrong, because I would like this movie to succeed. If it does, maybe we will see Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried show up in more action films, which is full of win for everyone.
In Time hits theaters on October 28, 2011 in 2D!!!
