Jerry O’Connell cast as Herman in NBC’s reboot of The Munsters

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, NBC has found their Herman Munster. And it is none other than Jerry “I brought the comb!” O’Connell.

For those of you who don’t know, an attempt to reboot The Munsters has been in the works for awhile now. However, this time around we are not getting a cooky 30 minute sitcom, but rather an hour long drama entitled Mockingbird Lane. The series has already cast comedian Eddie Izzard as the wacky Grandpa Munster, and O’Connell will be carrying on the role that the late Fred Gwynne perfected in the original.

Personally, I really don’t know what to make of any of this news. Turning The Munsters into an hour long drama doesn’t seem like a good idea on paper. I do enjoy O’Connell’s acting, but I’d much rather see him as the Herman Munster we all know and love, and I don’t feel as though he will be able to be that when the show doesn’t appear to be a comedy. Only time will tell. After all, when has NBC ever messed up a good idea? Don’t answer that.
